I spotted these while grocery shopping a while ago and last night we decided to give them a go. I grilled them and we ate them in burgers with a little bit of accompanying salad (and a different sauce for every family member as is usually the case…)
These are Vegetarian Society approved and are suitable for vegans too. They come in a pack of 4 and are described as spicy bean quarter pounders with kidney and haricot beans in a parsley and oregano crumb. They cook from frozen and take somewhere between 12 and 30 minutes to prepare depending on whether you grill them or do them in the oven.
Grilling them was simplicity itself; I just stuck them under the grill for about 6 minutes, turned them over and left them for another 6 minutes. My grill only works on a high heat, so they were a little quicker than the 15 minutes under a moderate heat recommended on the packaging.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed these and will definitely be having them again. However our boys weren’t very keen and I ended up finishing theirs off. They complained that the quarter pounders were too spicy.
Luckily they are easily grilled together with other veggie burgers that my children will eat, so hubby and I will still be able to have them without preparing a completely separate meal for the kids. The fact that they come in a box of 4 makes this easier too. They are quite generously sized, so a box is just about right for the two of us.
I think they’d also be lovely in wraps or even just eaten on their own with chips or potatoes and veggies.
