Last year I wrote a review on a couple of brands of vegetarian marshmallows, but we have since discovered another one. Ananda Foods sent us some samples of their Gourmet range to try and I have to say I was really impressed with them.
We tried Choca Mocha, which are coffee marshmallows dusted with organic swiss cocoa, and Tutti Frutti, which include a selection of vanilla, raspberry, strawberry and banana marshmallows.
They are quite different from the other vegetarian marshmallows we’ve tried, as they are much lighter and fluffier, and also don’t need refrigerating (they shouldn’t be kept in the fridge at all).
The flavours are nice and distinctive without being overpowering and they are very, very moreish!
The packaging states that Ananda’s Gourmet Marshmallows don’t contain any artificial ingredients and are also free from dairy, eggs, soya, wheat and gluten, so are suitable for those with related allergies as well as vegetarians and vegans.
They still work out more expensive than ordinary (gelatine) marshmallows, and are about the same price as the other vegetarian marshmallows we’ve come across, but as they are a bit lighter than these I think you may get a few more marshmallows for the equivalent weight (100g costs £3.75).
If you’d like to try Ananda’s Gourmet Marshmallows for yourself, you can get hold of them on the Ananda Foods website. As well as the gourmet marshmallows they also sell organic toasted coconut and organic Madagascan vanilla flavours and a packet mix to make your own.
Keep an eye out for their special offers too. Recently they were doing a buy-one-get-one-free offer and currently there is 35% off on a 4 pack of Grab Bags (4 different 50g bags for £4.99).
If you do try these out, let me know what you think.
